Sustainable Bioeconomy Council
During the implementation and development of the Sustainable Bioeconomy Strategy, the Sustainable Bioeconomy Council Baden-Württemberg, comprised of experts from various divisions and sectors of the bioeconomy, will advise the state government.
Since 2014, Baden-Württemberg has become a leading region for the bioeconomy. From 2014 to 2020 the research strategy “Establishing Bioeconomy in the System” (“Bioökonomie im System aufstellen”) was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts. The bioeconomy policy strategy “Nachhaltige Bioökonomie Baden-Württemberg” is being implemented by the Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector since 2020.
The concentration of inter- and transdisciplinary expertise within a council is an important component of making Baden-Württemberg a successful role model for a sustainable bioeconomy. The enhanced application of biological knowledge shall serve as an economical driver for innovation in the coming decades, in a way comparable to digitalization.
Innovative solutions of the bioeconomy will increase regional value creation, attractive employment positions, and will provide substantial contributions towards sustainability goals, particularly those in the domain of environment, climate, and resource protections.
